Ogio's Devolver golf bag: Batman's utility belt for golfers
The Ogio Devolver is actually three bags in one. (Courtesy of Ogio)
With my golf game unraveling faster than a Mark Sanford alibi, I've decided to focus on just trying to look cool on course. And nothing makes a golfer look cooler than having all the latest whiz-bang gadgetry at the ready, for instant deployment in any perilous situation.
In essence, I want to be the Batman of golf.
The critical component to my plan is finding a golf bag that can serve as my utility belt, where I can safely store both golf balls and knockout gas, divot repair tools and Baterangs, tees and remote controls for my Batmobile, Batcycle and Batjet.
When I get all this equipment together, no one will care if I duck-hook every drive.
The ideal bag for the golfer with every piece of equipment you could imagine is the Devolver by Ogio ($320). Billed as the first three-in-one golf bag, the Devolver transforms from a fully-loaded cart bag to a light-weight carry bag to a five-club practice bag with relative ease.
I say "relative" because it does help to watch this videowhen trying to figure out how the bag "devolves" and "evolves" again. (Think of another golf bag that comes with its own instructional video and win a Bat-cookie.)
The basic idea is that the Devlover has a couple layers of removable "skin" that include extra pockets when you're riding and which are removable for carrying. The smallest fragment of skin is actually the practice bag when it is removed from the main structure.
The verdict on Ogio's Devolver bag
To be honest, if you are not going to utilize the incredible versatility of the Devolver, it's probably not worth the price. However, if you like to walk and ride, and also detest carrying an unkempt handful of clubs to the practice tee or your back yard, it is the coolest bag on the market.
The 10 pockets rival those of any competitor, and, even better, they all face forward for easy access on the golf cart. Although the bag has just a single shoulder strap, it's extremely well padded. And in fact, if you use a caddy, they much prefer single to dual straps.
All the other clever engineering features for which Ogio has become famous are also here: built-in rubberized top grip, rubber anti-slip bottom, putter-cover attachment loop, fleece-lined valuables pocket, easy-access divot-tool & pencil slots, external ball silo, etc., etc.
I believe there's even a place for my Baterangs.
